ACAP Early Childhood Education is much more than Day Care...
Head Start/Early Head Start provides comprehensive programming individualized based on the strengths and needs of each child. Children learn through play, supported by an evidence based curriculum

Programming includes:

How Do I Apply?
A parent or guardian must complete an intake with our Service Navigation department at 333 Sheridan Ave, Albany NY. to apply or call 518-463-3175 to schedule an appointment; walk-ins are welcome. Inquiries can also be made at any ACAP Early Childhood Center. Program selection is based on a number of criteria; it is NOT first come first served.


Are You Eligible?

  • Head Start ages are 3-4 year old
  • Early Head Start ages 6 weeks-3 years old.
  • Meet Federal income eligibility guidelines
  • Reside in Albany County*

*There is a school district residency requirement for 3 and 4 year old at some of our centers.

All children in our Head Start/Early Head Start gain a solid foundation for kindergarten expectations and often enter kindergarten better prepared than many of their non- Head Start/Early Head Start peers. Your child won't be a number with us, they will be a child who was given a chance.

How do I qualify?

Are you motivated?

Are you unemployed or underemployed?

Are you at least 18 years old?

If you answered "Yes" to ALL of these questions you may qualify for one of the trainings offered through our Career Services Program. While some of our training grants also require participants' household income to fall at, or below, specific levels, and may also require additional educational requirements, anyone who is interested in our services is highly encouraged to call or attend one of our public orientations.

All interested candidates must attend one of our open orientations held every Monday at 10 am at ACAP’s Main Office, 333 Sheridan Avenue or at ACAP’s Cohoes Office at 145 Remsen St.

Dress for Success Albany

 I have a job interview, how can Dress for Success Albany help?

Dress for Success Albany provides support services in a stress-free environment for women throughout the greater Capital Region who have upcoming interviews. We offer one-on-one appointments in our beautiful boutique that is stocked with a variety of new or gently-worn interview-appropriate attire including shoes and accessories. 

I’ve been hired and need help with employment clothing and job support…

No worries, we’ve got you covered. Upon verification of employment, women are invited to the boutique for an employment suiting, which includes up to a week’s worth of professional attire so that they don’t need to worry about what to wear during that crucial transition period. We also provide added support through our Professional Women’s Group that meets monthly and focuses on job retention and career advancement.

How can I be referred and is there a fee?

Women are referred to Dress for Success Albany through a variety of channels: referral agencies, workforce development programs, community agencies, and educational institutions. 

It is a free program for income eligible women who are actively engaged in job search or who have recently found employment and are in need of interview or work attire.

I am nervous and not sure about the program…

A highly skilled, dedicated and diverse team of staff, advisory members, volunteers and donors makes it possible for our Dress for Success Albany program to provide exceptional support, motivation, inspiration and empowering services to hundreds of women each year. It’s a no judgement zone.

Community Services

Commitment to our community is one of the most important things to us. 

The Food Pantry

The Cohoes Food Pantry is an emergency pantry for those who reside in Cohoes, Green Island, and Watervliet.

Why Us?

  • We offer 3 days’ worth of nutritious meals
  • Families are able to select pantry items of their choice from a weekly menu
  • Families are able to connect with a knowledgeable Service navigator that will connect you with other local community resources to support you in stretching your food dollars.
  • We offer seasonal workshops around healthy eating, couponing and meal preparation on a budget

How Do I apply?

  • Visit our office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and bring with you
  • Proof of residency such as mail, a bill or lease
  • Identification for your household members
  • Proof of income for the last 30 days

What if I do not have the required documents?

No worries, we are an EMERGENCY pantry and will work with you to gather the documents that you need.  Our goal to eliminate your immediate need of food for you and your family

Volunteer Income Tax Program (VITA)

Why Us?

  • We offer Free federal and State tax preparation for  households earning less than 52,000 total income
  • Staff are trained, qualified preparers that are certified by the IRS each yea
  • We ensure that workers receive all the tax credits to which they are entitled.
  • Refunds are generally available in your bank account within 10 days
  • We offer financial literacy tools such as one on one credit report counseling from local community partners and referrals that promote financial stability and asset building opportunities

What to bring:

  • Proof of identification (License or DMV Non-Drivers ID)
  • Social Security cards for you, your spouse and dependents and/or a Social Security number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration
  • Wage and earning statements, Form W-2, W2G, 1099-R, from all employers
  • Interest statements from banks (Forms 1099)
  • A copy of last year’s Federal and State returns if available
  • Bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit
  • Total paid for daycare provider(s) and the daycare provider(s)’s tax ID number (either Social Security number or EIN number)
  • To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.

Energy Services

Eligibility

  • A building is eligible for weatherization services when at least 50% of the building’s households meet the income eligibility requirements of the program
  • Single-family homes must be occupied by an eligible family
  • Multi-units must meet the 50% rule (i.e. if there are 3 units in the building, at least 2 out of the 3 must be eligible)

Do I have to own my own home to receive services?

No, you do not have to own your home. Tenants are eligible to apply, we’ll work in cooperation with your landlord. If your landlord lives in the building as their primary residence and meets the eligibility guidelines the services may be provided free of charge. If they are not eligible, services can still be provided with a 25%-50% contribution from the landlord. 

I heard there are two agencies in Albany County that provide weatherization services. Is that accurate?

We are now the only organization providing Weatherization Services for all eligible residents of Albany County. Interested residents should call us at 518.463.3715 or stop by our office at 333 Sheridan Ave Albany, NY.

If I have received weatherization services in the past, can I apply again?

Policy mandates that we are unable to return to homes that have received weatherization services at any point since September 1994. This date periodically changes, so please check back.

If I do not qualify for weatherization are there other services available through ACAP?

Albany Community Action Partnership does have an Energy Services division that can perform weatherization type services on a fee-or-service basis. For more information on this, please contact our office 518.463.3175
