"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do , you have to keep moving forward." -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today we celebrate one of the most influential civil rights leaders in the world who also advocated for impoverished families and was an early supporter of the "War on Poverty" and the Economic Opportunity Act (the legislation which created the Community Action Agencies). As one of these agencies, ACAP has inherited the legacy of Dr. King and his passion for making the world a more fair and equitable place for all.

As a reminder, ACAP will closed today, but we will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, January 18th.

Shout out to Kerri, who shared why she loves teaching the Positive Solutions for Families parenting class.

“I love teaching the Positive Solutions for Families parenting class because it is empowering. My favorite part is making the connection and being real with families who have similar experiences as me as a single mom. My aha! moments are seeing the parents trying something new with their children and it works!”

Thanks, Kerri! ACAP is proud to have staff like you who really cares about making a difference in the lives of our families.

If you would like to receive free parenting classes and quality childcare, enroll your child in our Head Start or Early Head Start programs. You can visit our website www.albanycap.org/apply-now or call (518) 463-3175 and choose Option 2 to start an intake.

A year ago, we posted this message about self-care being healthcare and it is just as important today as it was in 2021.

"Breathe, take a 5 minute walk, stop to call a friend to say hi. There are things we can do right now, to help reduce the stress in our lives. Remember Self-Care is Health Care. Did you know January is National Soup Month? 🥣 In this cold weather, we definitely need it. We're going to ask you to be a little flexible with us and insert this chili instead of a traditional soup.

We're sharing a recipe for White Chili with Chicken from the Eating Well for Playing Hard recipe book, adapted by Brightside Up. Freezing extra soups/stews/chili is also a great to have a healthy and ready made meal for whenever you do not feel like cooking.

Eating Well for Playing Hard, developed by New York State Health Department, is a program used by ACAP's Pre-K classrooms to help promote healthy habits through diet and exercise.

Find out more on our website www.albanycap.org.
