Local Community Event Celebrates National Initiative to Eliminate Poverty

Albany, NY – May 12, 2009 – On May 14th, from 3pm-6pm, Albany Community Action Partnership (ACAP) will host its 4th Annual Community Appreciation Block Party in celebration of National Community Action Month. During this month, 1000 Community Action Agencies (CAA’s) around the country host a variety of events that help generate awareness and hope for those individuals and families living in poverty.

ACAP’s event, free to the public, will feature face painting, bouncy bounces, free food, drink, and music. There will also be an opportunity to receive free cancer screenings for both men and women and dental screenings for the entire family. Tables throughout the block will also provide information regarding ACAP’s many programs and services, including Head Start, HEAP, Weatherization and CareerLinks.

“Last year we had over 500 individuals and families attend the event and we expect this year to exceed that number,” stated Kathy Cloutier, ACAP’s Executive Director. “It’s a memorable day for the community and it exemplifies the mission and power of Community Action.”

Citizens Bank, Fidelis Care, Price Chopper, Stewarts, McDonalds and The Party Warehouse are this year’s generous event sponsors.

The 4th Annual Community Appreciation Block Party will be held on the block of 333 Sheridan Avenue in Albany, NY.  All are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Michelle Bowen at 518-463-3175 ext.101 or
